Four-Step Program: Unwanted Habits

Apathy

"I just don't care enough to fight these temptations, I'll have a drink and worry about it later."
One problem with our dependency is that it is offered as a solution (through temptation) to solve our problem of emotional discomfort. But, if we do give in to the temptation then we may get a reduction in our wilingness to engage meaningfully with our own life. A kind of fatalistic confirmation of our own apathy. And so a cycle is built up.
Over time apathy may deepen still further into depression, or grief while we are indulging our habit. If this is you then check out the section on depression in the Four-Step Program challenges.
Where appropriate, deal with whatever in your environment needs dealing with (or Stepping away from). Breathe into your feelings, recognise your own umanity, and 'choose' to avoid acting the victim. 'Choose' to encourage your own feelings of calm-contentment to replace whatever discomfort has been building up.
Here is a guided meditation that you may find useful. It is intended to challenge your loss of caring and remind you that you have purposes worth aiming for.
Trancework Meditation.
